A woman escaped serious injury Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 2013, when the tie rod apparently broke on her pickup truck and the vehicle hit a guardrail.
LaPorte County Sheriff’s deputies said her seat belt probably saved Kristina Redlin, 26, of Portage, from serious injury.
Redlin was traveling south on Ind. 39 just north of the Kankakee River just before 10 a.m. She told deputies that she lost control after the tie rod apparently broke on the 1984 Chevrolet pickup. The truck left the west side of the road, crossed over to the east side, then struck a guardrail.
The truck was totaled.
