A child was seriously hurt in a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 20 near CR 500 East near Rolling Prairie on Saturday morning, Feb. 14, 2015. Three cars, a truck, a van, an SUV and a semi were involved in the crash, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office. Wind and intermittent snow caused whiteout conditions at times Saturday morning.
“The patient count is unknown at this time, however a child was transported from the scene in critical condition,’ according to a sheriff’s office press release. “Two LaPorte County EMS ambulances were called to the scene as well as off-duty EMS personnel.”
U.S. 20 was closed between Ind. 2 and CR 400 East for an undetermined time after the mid-morning crash.
Police said that by 11 a.m. they had responded to numerous crashes and slide-offs. The public is being asked to refrain from driving except for emergencies.
