South Bend Memorial Hospital Med Flight was called to LaPorte County Sunday afternoon, Oct. 19, 2014, after a rural LaPorte man was burned while working on a car.

LaPorte County EMS and Coolspring Township firefighters were called to a residence in the 2600 north block of Goldring Road at about 4:20 p.m. A 31-year-old man was working on the engine of a vehicle when a fire erupted. Because of the seriousness of his burns, Med Flight was called.

A landing zone was set up at the Summit Farm on Johnson Road, where the patient was brought by ambulance. He was flown to the burn unit at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
