Grigalanz
A rural LaPorte man identified as Lanny Franks, 47, was killed in a one-car crash Sept. 24, 2014, and the car’s driver has been charged with operating while intoxicated, causing a death, a Level 4 felony. The driver was Daniel J. Grigalanz, 27, of Michigan City, according to a LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Franks was pronounced dead after the Nissan driven by Grigalanz left the road and hit a tree in the 0900 North block of CR-640 West at about 9:50 p.m. Grigalanz sustained minor injuries. Besides the OWI causing a death felony, he faces a second felony charge of OWI — previous conviction, and three misdemeanor OWI charges.
Also responding to the scene were Coolspring Township Fire Department and LaPorte County Emergency Medical Service personnel.
